15 Contact Hours Pressure wounds concern all healthcare providers. Despite increased efforts, the incidence of pressure wounds continues to escalate, mandating that all healthcare providers be able to recognize and identify pressure wounds, remediate potential risks, and assume responsibility for supporting and/or implementing an effective treatment plan. This course presents the etiology and staging (level of severity) of pressure wounds, and provides an overview of prevention and treatment for occupational therapists, physical therapists, and nurses at the beginner and intermediate levels. Jolinda Ferrell, RN, WCC (Wound Care Certified), is a 32 year nursing veteran and Director of Nursing at an LTC in Wisconsin. Besides providing direct wound care, Jolinda has developed, implemented and managed wound care programs at various facilities, and has been recognized by state and local agencies as an expert consultant and instructor in this area. Joel is an occupational therapist who specializes in neurological disorders in children and adults. He received his Bachelors of Science (B.S) degree in occupational therapy from Keuka College (Keuka Park, NY) in 1995 and his post-graduate Masters of Science (M.S.) degree from Misericordia University (Dallas, PA) in 2010. He holds a post-graduate certificate in pediatrics from Misericordia University (2006) and has worked in a variety of settings from out-patient pediatrics to in-patient adults. Joel is an experienced author and instructor who has presented on a wide range of topics including stroke rehab, neuromuscular disorders, autism, sensory dysfunction, dementia, falls, and outcomes-based therapy.
